Ryann could only watch Lydia as she stood in front of her. Those silvery, grey eyes shone like the first night they kissed, but Ryann felt more connected to Lydia than she did that night over a month ago, despite the time they’d spent apart.

Perhaps it was the want she’d experienced as she sat at home alone, perhaps it was just Lydia as a person. Ryann wasn’t sure she had ever felt so happy and at ease in another woman’s company, but Lydia had provided that sense of comfort from the moment they met. Ryann should be worried since Lydia had just told her she could be leaving in a couple of months, but she found it hard to worry about something that wasn’t final. In those short months, anything could happen.

Deep down, Ryann was terrified to lose this after only just gaining it, but she would make it work. She’d always wanted to learn to drive; life getting in the way prevented that. Now, this could be the perfect opportunity to do so. Ryann immediately erased the idea from her mind. With the hours she was currently working, it would take her forever to pass her test. Lydia didn’t have forever; at least Ryann didn’t believe so.

“R-Ryann…” Lydia spoke, her voice low.

Ryann focused fully on Lydia’s beautiful features, thick, black hair flowing over one shoulder. “Yeah?”

“I do really want to make this work with you.”

Ryann appreciated Lydia’s honesty more than anything in the world. Jen had done nothing but lie through her teeth over the last year. Ryann had believed Jen’s actions would make her wary about other women’s intentions, but she didn’t feel that with Lydia. Ryann knew without a shadow of a doubt that she could trust Lydia completely.

“Hey, I do, too.” Ryann lowered the beer bottles and bowl back down to the coffee table, bringing her hand to Lydia’s cheek and caressing the soft skin beneath her palm. “People manage long distance all the time.”

“I don’t want long distance.” Lydia closed her eyes momentarily, her lips parting as Ryann’s thumb feathered across her bottom lip. “I want to be here. With you.”

“You have some time to think about it, right?”

Lydia nodded, her eyes still closed.

“Then don’t worry about it tonight.” Ryann’s lips explored the skin of Lydia’s neck, surprising them both. When a short, sharp gasp escaped Lydia, Ryann could only smile. “You smell good.” Her lips moved higher, nibbling the shell of Lydia’s ear. “And I know you’re worried, I am too, but I’d really like to spend the rest of this evening with you…not thinking about it.”

“Mm,” was the only response Ryann received.

“Would that work for you?” The tip of Ryann’s tongue worked its way across Lydia’s jawline, finding her lips as Ryann’s hand explored the soft skin of Lydia’s hip.

“W-works for me really well.”

Lydia’s arms suddenly wrapped around Ryann’s neck, and it was in that moment that Ryann chose to take matters into her own hands. Gripping the backs of Lydia’s thighs, Ryann lifted her, wrapping Lydia’s legs around her waist.
